I’ve been an avid cyclist since the day I learned to ride. I did my first long rides in the 4th grade during summer break with my friends. We would ride the river channels in Southern California to the beach, or north into the mountains. These were all-day affairs on BMX bikes, with whatever snacks we remembered to bring. Often we would pool our spare change for a small box of cake mix to share as our in-ride energy boost. I remember one ride we did from Cerritos to Lake Irvine, The last few miles include a pretty steep grade…


Who else went for a ride this weekend, or a run only to complete the activity and find out they could not sync their data? As a recent Peloton convert and someone who enjoys the concept of socially accountable fitness ushered in by Peloton…if I can’t post or share an activity, did the activity even happen?

This is the conundrum we “Pelophiles” have to deal with. If we exercise outdoors, we still have to be able to generate metrics and share our experiences. I prefer to ride outside. In fact, I only ride the Peloton when our Florida weather precludes…


I bought my wife a Peloton this past Christmas after being barraged by ads of 30 somethings getting their “bike on” in front of full-length windows on the 30th floor of studio apartments in Chicago while it snowed outside. I wanted us to be like them, but we aren’t and no longer will be.

We live in Florida so snow is not in the picture, being a 30 something isn’t either. However, we do like to get our “bike on” indoors and out. My wife loves the competition the peloton offers via social media. …
